Our History

Built in 1883, the Ainsworth Inn Bed and Breakfast was originally a general store. During the early 1900's the building was converted to a boarding house. Maude Anderson owned the property from 1936-1942 when she moved to Omaha to be closer to her children. The house has seen various businesses during its time: a boarding house, tea shop, bus depot, beauty shop and an enclosed apartment. As a boarding house, ladies from ranches would stay in town while waiting to have babies. An older couple affectionately termed "Ma and Pa Brown", would stay at the boarding house during the winter so they would not have to heat their home. |

The old time, pioneer charm of the Ainsworth Inn is reflected in the decor of the house and the individual rooms. The charming decor of the rooms has original appeal with the furniture and furnishings reflecting a specific theme. Visitors are welcomed, cared for and can relax after a day of antiquing, bird watching, hiking the sandhills, hunting for game, taking a ranch tour or any of the multitude of activities this area of the sandhills provides. Business travellers enjoy the atmosphere and privacy of our rooms. Dinner for 2 by reservation can be provided. Families can enjoy the house while having reunions. Victorian birthday tea parties for little girls is a favorite activity in our tea room. |
